Hankscraft REV 2.5 manual & owner's quick guide

The REV 2.5 is the smaller, earlier Hankscraft Runxin ceramic valve — the REV4's little brother. Same idea, smaller head: a ceramic disc does the switching instead of pistons and seals. If one is running in your garage, this is the owner's 10-minute version, with the full factory book linked at the bottom. I'm Matt, Aqua Pro Services, Clearwater.

1. The bypass — same as the REV4, and that's from the manual

Here's the thing nobody tells REV 2.5 owners: Hankscraft did not change the bypass between this valve and the REV4. Both manuals document the same part in the same section — the Ceramic Bypass 41206/41207, §6 in your book too. If you learn it once, you know it on both valves.

  • Ceramic bypass (current style): a block on the back of the valve, one round handwheel on top. Turn it — slowly, per every Hankscraft guide — to bypass (softener isolated, house still has water) or back to service (through the softener).
  • Push-pull bypass (some systems, older units): a flanged knob on the end of the block instead of a wheel — nothing turns, the knob slides in and out on a single piston. Which way is service is being field-verified: Runxin’s own manual for this part pictures service with the knob pulled out and bypass pushed in, while a Hankscraft dealer guide says the opposite, and the push-pull animation flags the conflict on its face. Check the labeled positions on your unit before you go by anyone’s picture — including the animation below, which shows the ceramic handwheel version.

Leaking, or running and won't stop? Bypass first, then think. Full emergency walk-through here.

2. The clock & programming

Programming lives in §7 of your manual (the RevV2.5 book, revision 1 from February 2020). Owner-level items:

  • Time of day. Wrong clock after an outage = regeneration in your morning shower. Reset it; regeneration belongs at 2 a.m.
  • Regeneration mode and time. Set at install for your tank size and your water. Your numbers are on the settings card at your unit — trust the card over anything on a forum, because the forum doesn't know your tank or your well.

3. The hardness setting

The hardness number tells the valve how often your water needs it to clean itself. It was set from your water test at install — city water here runs about 14 grains, wells are all over the map. A couple of grains either way is the safe band; big swings mean salt burned for nothing or water quietly going hard. If your water source changed — new well, city switch — that's a re-test and a re-set, and it's a short call: (727) 342-0091.

4. Salt

  • Pellets, tank covered, checked monthly, salt above the water line.
  • Tank looks full, water's hard? Broom handle, gentle poke. A salt bridge — a hollow crust over empty space — is common in humid garages and fools everybody once.
  • On a sulfur setup, a returning rotten-egg smell is a system service call, not a cue to go changing valve settings.

One heads-up so the cover doesn’t confuse you: Hankscraft doesn’t post this book on its own website, so the linked copy comes through one of its distributors and wears that distributor’s Genesis Select brand on the cover. The book underneath the cover is Hankscraft’s own RevV2.5 manual — same section 6 bypass, same programming. I keep the version logged on my end; if the link rots, the book goes up on this page instead.
